The Flach Ranch Story The Flach Ranch is located 8 miles north of Bismarck, North Dakota on the rolling prairie. Scott and Donna have developed the ranch from a 40 acre pasture with a partial parameter fence. They purchased the land in 1981. In 1982 they built a house.

Today the ranch includes a large outdoor arena, 60 foot round pen, 80 x 90 indoor arena, stall barn, hay barn, loafing shed, several thousand trees, and numerous flower beds.

They have used the ranch to raise their daughter Alicia Flach Dietrich, and son Chad. Along the way the horsemanship skills of all have grow dramatically as well as the quality of their horses.

Leva Lotta Cash Growing up Scott was always happiest on the back of a horse. His father was a mechanic and had no interest in horse ownership. Thanks to uncles and friends Scott still managed to spend a lot of time on a horse.

Three weeks after employment, following graduation from college, Scott and Donna had their first horse debate. Should they buy a horse or a new couch? Donna gave in to the horse, Leva Lotta Cash, and things grew from there.  Initially they boarded at Selland’s arena. While there they learned much about the care, feeding, breeding, and training of horses. Scott also learned to rope.

North Dakota Badlands Alicia and Chad both began riding as soon as they were strong enough to sit up. Camping and trail riding became a favorite family pass time.Credit Lady and Rainmaker Donna thought raising colts was more enjoyable since that did not involve being on the back of a horse. They raised their first colt in 1978.

Alicia and Star; Chad and Dallas As the kids grew the next phase was 4H which also lead to competing in playdays and open shows. In time Scott also became a 4H leader and Bismarck Horse Club playday chairmen.

Alicia and Chad also got involved in 4H horse judging competitions. Both did well at a state level. The Senior team that Alicia was a part of won the State competition and placed 6th at the National 4H Horse judging in Denver Colorado.

Alicia and Fancy Alicia’s interest in hunter under saddle lead to jumping and dressage. To further pursue these interests she became involved in the Bismarck English Riders club and took lessons. Jumps were added to the list of equipment at the ranch.

The 3 Amigos Scott, Chad, and Alicia spent nights developing their riding skills and training horse as well as a little joking around.

Over time Scott and Chad’s interests focused on starting two year olds and reining. To further pursue the reining interest they became more involved in AQHA shows.Chad and Fox: Scott and Missy Scott took a position on the NDQHA association board and did what he could to grow the youth and reining classes.

To further develop their skills Chad and Scott began hauling to Canada where there was more interest in reining. They also attended numerous clinics by experts including: Pat Wickenheiser, Bob Loomis, Scott McCutcheon, and Les Vogt.

Chad and Fox Today Chad lives in Bismarck with his wife Emily and two daughters. He keeps his horses at the ranch. He is usually developing a two or three year old. Scott and Chad enjoy showing together at AQHA and NRHA shows.

Scott and Sneak Scott enjoys starting young horses and developing and showing reiners. In 2005 Scott was entrusted with the responsibility of representing North Dakota as a AQHA director.

Tony and Kids The third generation of Flach’s have begun picking up the reins. Alicia’s kids come out to the ranch 1 night a week to hike, play ball, tame kittens, eat Grandma’s cooking and of course ride horse. Chad and Emily's daughters enjoy going out to the ranch several times a week in the summer, to play, ride horse, and seeing Grandma and Grandpa
